Once Upon A Time...

Well, it really all began in the 70's.
When our founder attended her first dance class, she started dancing and hasn't stopped since. That first class as a young child led into a love affair with the arts that would take her accross the United States, Europe and even to the Miss America stage. "Wee Winks is the combination of my life experiences, the joy of motherhood and the inspiration of little girls everywhere." (Jennifer Winker) Those who know her, know the truth behind the statement. With over 25 years spent in the performing arts (as a student, teacher, performer and competitor), a lifetime spent near a sewing machine and the gift of a beautiful daughter...the birth of Wee Winks was truly a natural progression.

At Wee Winks, we are parents who know just how much fun it is to dress our wee one! We specialize in girls custom boutique tutus, personalized childrens clothing and accessories ~ Using only quality fabrics and notions to create quality items that can be challenging to find in the mainstream industry. We craft each item individually, by hand, with the care that only a parent would put in for their child. Most of our garments are constructed with French Seams or a fully lined...only the best for the little Prince or Princess

A note from Jennifer~

I grew up in Michigan, and for as long as I can remember, there were two sounds you could always hear at my house; Music and the hum of the Viking (my Mom's Sewing Machine)! There would always be some sort of music filling the house whether it be Vivaldi, Billy Joel or someone playing one of the 14 musical instruments we had in the house.

Then there's the sewing machine. I come from a long line of sewers ~ two Grandmothers, Aunts and my Mother ~ all creative with a needle and thread. Many mornings (especially special ones like school picture day) I'd wake up to find my Mother had gotten up early to to sew me a new outfit to wear that day! Her clothing and costume creations went with me (or on me!) everywhere; to School and Church, piano and dance performances across the USA/Europe and even to the Miss America stage when she crafted the talent gown that I wore for my classical piano performance. (a black wedding gown!) Now, I find myself waking up early to sew my daugther a dress to wear that day...and I love doing it.

I began helping my Mother in Elementary School by choosing fabrics and even designing some of the costumes that she would sew. In college, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to study Music, Dance and Theatre at the Boston Conservatory of Music in Boston MA. In my 20's, if I wasn't performing on the stage, I was working behind it...building sets, sewing costumes, etc. Now in my 30's, most of my performances consist of those done in the living room with my young daughter as a scene partner and scene stealer!

I have had a variety of experiences in my life and the birth of Wee Wnks has been a natural progression. It's truly a combination of the experiences mentioned above along with many others. You can only imagine how many little girls I met as a Miss America State Titleholder...I'll never forget the look in their eyes when I'd place the 'official crown' on top of their heads ~ Each one, with wonder and amazement, instantly transformed into the Princess of all Princesses. With that inspiration in mind, I bring to you my Tutu Collection and children's line of custom clothing and accessories known as Wee Winks.
